CataGugl is a fun little game provided to me by Tayasui. It has a very simple goal; fling Gugl as far as you can. CataGugl features local, country, and global leaderboards, giving you a reason to keep playing.
Gugl is a rubbery, doughy creature. Maybe instead of creature, I should call Gugl a ball... or a boomerang... or something. Okay, let's just stick with Gugl. When you touch Gugl to pick him up, a counter begins to count down from three. Spinning Gugl in circles increases the power meter. You'll want to spin him as much as possible before letting go when the game says “go” for an extra boost. Power, angle, and timing are all important.
Sometimes I spun Gugl so hard that the friction would hurt my finger a little. I had to remind myself not to go too crazy. CataGugl would also lag often during the throwing part, making it hard to do what I wanted to do. Restarting my iPhone seemed to fix it. I also realized that I could just flick Gugl to send him on his way without spinning. I started doing this the majority of the time once I realized. When Gugl passes through a cloud, he inflates. When inflated, tapping on him will give him a quick boost and deflate him. You'll want to cross your fingers in hope that he passes through a lot of clouds! There are also red balloons that, when hit, causes Gugl to bounce further. These are very helpful if you land on them, but if you hit them from below, you end up hurting your chances of going far.
CataGugl is a very simple idea. Sometimes it's frustrating, but it's also a lot of fun. While you can experience the whole game in the first 10 seconds, it's somehow still quite addicting. I would repeatedly tell myself the same thing. “Okay, I'm not doing very well. I've had enough. Just one more round. Okay, one more. Last one! ...Oh, that was a great one! 'Kay, I need to try some more!” I managed to get to spot 21 on the United States leaderboard with my best throw! I wish the lag at the beginning would stop, because restarting my device is annoying. Luckily it does make it better, as does using the flick to launch rather than dragging in circles. The graphics, like the game itself, are simple yet really nice. It looks goofy, which fits well with the idea of throwing this Gugl... creature. Similarly the music and sound effects fit very nicely as well. CataGugl certainly makes me smile and want to continue for “just one more round.” It can be found on the App Store for $0.99!
