Game Overview:

The latest release from Sierra sports PGA Championship Golf, 1999 Edition has brought a whole new feel to PC golf games. The combination of almost photographic quality graphics, crystal clear sound have made this game an equal to any other golf game currently on the market. However the true key to this game, and the aspect which gives it the edge over all of its competitors is the new swing control system incorporated in the game, " trueswing ". "Trueswing" is controlled by a back and forth motion of your mouse. This new system of control gives one "true" control of the golfer and I personally found it provided the game with a much more realistic feel, something which I have found lacking in other golf games. Don't worry if your one of those people who has always loved the triple-click style of swing control, because Sierra has given you the option of using either the "Trueswing" or the "Triple-click".

Game Options:

PGA Championship Golf, 1999 Edition has 12 different game play types, including Skins, and Medal; it also has the capability for Remote and LAN games. As well it has the standard practice and tournament play modes. The tournament play is enhanced even more by the use of real PGA players. An added bonus to the many different play options, is an exceptional Course Architect. The course architect allows you to design your own professional level golf course from the ground up, so when you get bored with the seven courses which the game comes with you have the option of designing one or more of your own. There is also an excellent player editor, which allows you to create your own player.

Graphics:

PGA Championship Golf, 1999 Edition has the best graphics I've ever seen in a golf game. The courses are depicted with almost photographic quality and the player animation is amazingly realistic. Added to the excellent graphic quality is the option for over 15 different types of camera views with customizable angles, and shot playback.

Sound:

Like the graphics, the sound is extremely high quality, and adds to the realistic feel of the game. The background noise and sound effects are standard, but it's the color commentary, which provides the best addition to the realism of the game. What makes it even better is that the actual comments are adjustable they can be changed so that they are more or less frequent, and you can also increase or decrease heckle comments from the crowd.

Installation:

PGA Championship Golf, 1999 Edition, is easily installed from the CD using the Windows wizard installation. A few clicks of the mouse to choose your settings and your ready to hit the links.

Game play:

As you walk out onto the first tee at the Sahalee Country Club the warm wind rustle's the grass and your caddy passes you a club, you set your stance, swing, and your off! That's basically how easy it is to begin one of the best rounds of PC golf you'll ever play. I, as a golf enthusiast found PGA Championship Golf, 1999 Edition to be the most realistic in both game play and graphics that I had ever played. The overall look and feel of the game give it an edge over every other PC golf game I've played, and the commentary adds both a nice touch to the Game play and an odd moment comedy, when the commentators make cracks about bad shots you make. Speaking of bad shots, I must warn you that the "Trueswing" swing control system does take a little bit of getting used too before you can make good shots consistently. This, however, is a small price to pay for the realistic feel, which the "Trueswing" system provides.

Overall, I would give PGA Championship Golf an excellent rating. The key for every sports game is realism and Game play, and in this case it is no different. PGA Championship is one of the better sports games I have had the opportunity to play.
