Harpoon Classic'97 is based on modern naval warfare. There are over 250 Different scenarios offering hours, and hours of game play. In Harpoon Classic '97 you command all naval and air units of a scenario. The scenarios can range from commanding a single ship to commanding mutiple groups of ships and air bases. The scenarios consist from patrolling a certain part of the ocean or sea to taking control of whole regions. Thus making this game attractive to beginners and expert war gamers. For beginners there is an excellent sample scenario to get your feet wet. The manual goes through and shows you how to do the commands of patrolling, attackings with, subs, ships and planes. The game play is good as you can decide whether you want "real time" or a faster play, and you can change the play at anytime during your scenario, which makes it nice when you think nothing is happening. If something does happen, there is an "assistant" that appears to let you know whatis going on, then you have an opportunity to change the scenario to "real time", so you can give your commands as to what you desire. Don't expect to win all the scenarios right off the bat, as each scenario can change with a couple of different commands if not one! The graphics are not 3D, but are good just the same. The sound is great. when you give a command you hear the noises of that vessel or plane. whether it be attacking or sending out sonars beacons, or even submerging the submarines. In conclusion, H.C. '97 is a good game for the average game, and a great game for the "navel buffs" of the world. The game was a bit frustrating at times for myself, but thats what makes it all the more fun!
